Mack Trucks Introduces Mack ImpactShield Technology

Last Updated: May 5, 2026By

The trucking industry is always looking for new ways to make heavy-duty vehicles last longer and work better. Mack Trucks recently announced the Mack ImpactShield, a huge improvement for Class 8 trucks. This new feature is the first time a truck of this size will use Corning Fusion5 glass. It will come standard on the all-new Mack Granite truck. This update brings car-level glass technology to some of the toughest work environments in the world.

A Big Step for Truck Safety

Work trucks face many challenges every day. They have to deal with flying rocks, bad weather, and rough job sites. When a windshield breaks, it can slow down a whole project and cost a lot of money. Mack Trucks noticed this problem and wanted to find a better solution. By working with Corning, they created a windshield that handles stress much better than older glass options.

The new glass is designed to handle sharp impacts. It can resist heat and cold, and it is five times more resistant to scratches than standard windshields. This means drivers will be safer and companies will spend less money on repairs and maintenance over the life of the vehicle.

Why the New Glass Matters

The Mack ImpactShield offers a lot of measurable benefits for drivers and business owners. It has two times better impact resistance and two times better thermal shock resistance. It is also lighter than standard glass and helps defrost the truck much faster in cold weather.

Drivers spend many hours on the road, so having clear, reliable visibility is important. The one-piece curved design also helps keep the truck running without unplanned stops. For fleet operators, this means a better return on investment and less time spent in the repair shop.

What Else is New with the Truck

The new Mack Granite was shown off at the 2026 ConExpo-Con/Agg event. It features a new steel cab and top-notch safety tools. Drivers will enjoy the 270-degree radar coverage and rollaway protection, which keep everyone safe on busy roads. The inside of the cab was even designed with feedback from professional truck drivers.

Mack Trucks plans to make the ImpactShield a standard part of the Mack Granite when it goes into production in 2027. They will also offer it as an upgrade for other trucks in their lineup. To learn more about these new trucks, you can visit the official Mack Trucks website.
