Truck-Lite Trailer Backup Safety System Previewed

Last Updated: March 30, 2026By

Truck-Lite previewed a new trailer backup safety system designed to improve visibility and awareness during reverse maneuvers in yard, dock, and parking environments.

The system combines reverse lighting with an audible alarm to provide both visual and audible alerts when a trailer is backing. It is being developed as an integrated solution aimed at improving safety and efficiency while maintaining a cost structure suitable for fleet and OEM adoption.

According to Truck-Lite, many trailers currently operate without dedicated backup lighting or warning systems due to cost and installation complexity. The new system is designed to address those barriers with a simplified design that is easier to install and integrate into trailer builds.

The system is intended to enhance driver visibility behind the trailer while also alerting nearby personnel and vehicles during reverse operations. It is designed for use in low visibility conditions commonly found in loading docks, yards, and nighttime operations.

Truck-Lite stated that the system is being developed to reduce backing-related incidents, including vehicle damage, property damage, and safety risks to ground personnel. The system also supports more precise trailer positioning, which can improve operational efficiency during backing maneuvers.

The trailer backup safety system is planned for availability on 2027 trailer builds and was showcased at the TMC Annual Meeting in collaboration with Fruehauf.
