AI Cruise Control Delivers 5–7% Fuel Savings
Eaton announced that Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) will install approximately 1,400 Traxen iQ-Cruise systems across its fleet over the next 18 months, marking one of the largest deployments of AI-driven fuel efficiency technology in Class 8 trucking.
The system, developed by Traxen and distributed exclusively by Eaton, is designed to improve fuel economy and overall fleet performance by combining adaptive and predictive cruise control into a single platform. MVT, one of the largest privately owned fleets in the United States, is implementing the technology as part of its ongoing strategy to increase miles per gallon and reduce cost per mile across its operations.
Traxen’s iQ-Cruise uses artificial intelligence, GPS, and high-definition 3D mapping to determine the most fuel-efficient driving strategy for each route. The system continuously analyzes terrain, traffic conditions, weather, and vehicle load to optimize speed in real time. It is designed to work with automated manual transmissions across multiple truck manufacturers, allowing fleets to integrate the technology into existing equipment.
According to Eaton, the system delivered fuel savings of 5 to 7 percent during pilot testing across more than 25 million fleet miles. In addition to improving overall fuel economy, the system is designed to reduce variability in MPG between drivers, which can impact fleet-wide performance.
The planned rollout across 1,400 trucks reflects MVT’s evaluation of the system under real-world operating conditions. The fleet has a long-standing focus on fuel efficiency and continues to implement technologies aimed at improving operational consistency and lowering operating costs.
