Aperia Halo Now Inflates Steer Tires for Better Safety
Aperia Technologies Completes the Truck with New Steer Tire Inflation
Aperia Technologies has announced a major breakthrough in trucking safety: the launch of its Halo® automatic tire inflation system specifically for steer tires. For years, Aperia has helped trucks stay on the road by keeping drive tires and trailer tires properly inflated. Now, with this new release, the company offers a “total vehicle” solution that covers every single wheel position on a commercial truck.
Why Steer Tires are the Most Important
In the trucking industry, the two tires at the very front of the truck—the steer tires—are considered the most critical for safety. If a trailer tire goes flat, it is a problem, but if a steer tire fails, the driver can lose control of the entire vehicle.
By adding the Halo system to the steer axle, Aperia is helping to prevent dangerous blowouts caused by low pressure. Maintaining the exact right pressure also ensures the truck handles correctly during turns and stops, which keeps everyone on the road safer.
A Self-Powered, “Set It and Forget It” System
The Halo system is famous because it is completely self-powered. It does not need to be plugged into the truck’s engine or battery. Instead, it uses the natural rotation of the wheel to create the energy it needs to pump air.
As the truck drives, the Halo monitor “feels” the air pressure inside the tire. If the pressure drops even a little bit, the system automatically pumps in more air. This happens continuously without the driver ever having to pull over or pick up a manual pressure gauge. This “set it and forget it” design means the tires are always at the perfect pressure, which also helps the truck get better gas mileage.
Smart Data with Halo Connect
Aperia doesn’t just pump air; it also collects data. The steer tire system integrates with the Halo Connect platform. This is a cloud-based tool that uses “predictive analytics.” This is a fancy way of saying the computer can spot a tiny leak before it becomes a big hole.
The system is designed to be smart about how it talks to fleet managers. It uses an “alert filtering” process so it doesn’t annoy the office with constant notifications. It only sends an alert when a human actually needs to take action, like when a tire has a nail in it. This helps maintenance teams focus on the trucks that actually need help, reducing wasted time in the shop.
Total Coverage and Extra Features
With this new update, the Halo family now supports every part of the fleet:
-
Steer Axles: The critical front tires.
-
Drive Axles: The tires that push the truck forward.
-
Trailer Axles: The tires on the back of the load.
-
Medium-Duty Trucks: Smaller delivery trucks and box trucks.
Beyond just adding air, the new system can also track the temperature of the wheel-end. If a wheel bearing starts to get too hot, the system will catch it, helping to prevent fires or mechanical breakdowns. It can even help track tread wear to let the company know when it is time to buy new tires.
Improving Uptime and Saving Money
Aperia’s goal is to improve “uptime,” which is the amount of time a truck is actually out on the road making money. By keeping steer tires healthy, fleets can avoid expensive roadside repairs and keep their drivers safe. It provides a single, unified way to manage every tire on the truck using one simple piece of technology.
