Samsara Ups the Ante on Safety and Telematics

If you’re running a small or mid-sized fleet, you know that safety is a 24/7 job. From bad weather to bad driving habits, the risks are constant. This week, Samsara announced a major expansion of its AI-powered safety platform, rolling out new tools designed to help fleets like yours move from just reacting to incidents to proactively preventing them.

The announcement highlights three powerful new features that bring a new level of intelligence to fleet management, addressing safety both inside and outside the cab.

See the Weather Before It Hits with Weather Intelligence

We’ve all had drivers caught in unexpected storms. Samsara’s new Weather Intelligence aims to make that a thing of the past. Directly within the Samsara dashboard, you can now see live weather overlays—including radar, wind speed, and thunderstorm risk—on the same map as your trucks.

This means you can instantly see which assets are heading into severe weather and proactively alert drivers through their in-cab cameras or the Driver App. What’s truly innovative is the ability to tap into ground-level views. Using dash cam footage from your own fleet and other nearby trucks on the Samsara Network (a feature called StreetSense™), you can see real-time road conditions before your driver gets there. This isn’t just about safety; it’s about giving you the power to avoid costly delays and make smarter routing decisions.

Coach Every Driver, Every Day with Automated Coaching

Coaching is critical, but it’s also time-consuming. Samsara’s AI-Powered Automated Coaching is designed to solve this problem. The system uses AI to automatically analyze and prioritize safety events. It sends lower-risk events (like a rolling stop in an empty lot) directly to the driver for self-review, while escalating high-risk incidents to a manager.

For managers, a new Performance Overview dashboard centralizes everything, making it easy to spot high-risk drivers who need support and top performers who deserve recognition—a key tool for driver retention. One fleet reported that the system now handles about 98% of their coaching for nearly 1,000 drivers. This level of automation allows you to scale a world-class safety program without scaling your staff.

Protecting Your Team Beyond the Cab with Worker Safety

A driver’s job doesn’t end when the truck stops. The new Worker Safety feature, integrated into the Samsara Driver App, extends protection to your team wherever they are. A One-Click SOS button allows a worker to immediately alert managers to a threat, whether it’s a fall, a worksite injury, or an aggressive encounter. The alert provides rich context, including location and live camera footage.

Managers can also proactively check in on workers who might be at risk, like a driver who has been idle roadside for an unusually long time. It’s a comprehensive approach that recognizes the full scope of a driver’s duties and risks.

For small and mid-sized fleets, these advancements offer a chance to leverage enterprise-level AI to reduce risk, reward top drivers, and build a stronger safety culture without adding overhead.
