Zonar Clears the Way for Automated CARB Compliance
If your fleet operates anywhere near the West Coast, emissions compliance can feel like a secondary nightmare. Keeping track of changing state rules takes a lot of time and effort. However, Zonar Systems just announced a major regulatory victory that makes life much easier for new managers. The company is now the first telematics provider approved by the California Air Resources Board for Clean Truck Check compliance using factory-installed vehicle tech.
How the New Rules Affect Your Trucks
The California Clean Truck Check rule is designed to keep heavy-duty vehicles from polluting the air. Starting recently, non-gasoline commercial vehicles weighing over 14,000 pounds must submit emissions data on a strict schedule. Right now, fleets have to send this information twice a year. By 2027, the state will require these checks four times a year. If you run a busy company, scheduling that many manual tests can quickly turn into a logistical mess.
No More Mandatory Shop Visits
This approval means you no longer need to schedule manual, third-party emissions testing for your trucks. Normally, you would have to pull a vehicle off its route, send it to a certified shop, and pay a technician to plug a tool into the diagnostic port. The newly certified telematics hardware changes everything. It pulls the necessary onboard diagnostic data directly from the engine and sends it straight to the state over the air while the truck is still working.
Why Fleet Automation Matters
Missing a compliance deadline can bring heavy fines that destroy your budget. It can also cause the state to put a hold on your vehicle registration, which keeps your trucks off the road completely. Utilizing built-in compliance platforms keeps your fleet legal without adding paperwork to your desk. It catches engine faults early so you can fix them before a deadline hits. This saves you money on fuel, prevents unexpected downtime, and keeps your business running on time.
