Two ELDs Removed From FMCSA Registered List

Last Updated: August 7, 2025By

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently placed two electronic logging devices (ELDs) on its revoked devices list. The devices, WALKER ELD and SR ELD, were removed because they failed to meet minimum performance and design requirements. As a result, fleets and drivers using these specific models must stop using them immediately and revert to paper logs. They have until September 29, 2025, to transition to a compliant device. This action is part of the FMCSA’s ongoing effort to ensure the integrity of Hours of Service (HOS) data. It’s a critical safety measure, since accurate HOS records are fundamental for preventing driver fatigue and reducing accidents on the road.

The Importance of Due Diligence

Since the FMCSA maintains a self-certification process for ELD providers, it is crucial for fleets to perform due diligence when selecting a device. This recent action highlights the importance of regularly checking the FMCSA’s list of registered and revoked ELDs . The agency notes that motor carriers who fail to switch to a compliant ELD by the deadline will be considered as operating without an ELD. Consequently, drivers using a revoked device after September 29, 2025, will face out-of-service orders. This proactive step by the FMCSA protects fleets from non-compliant devices and reinforces the commitment to road safety.
