The manufacturer announced enhancements to its active braking systems. These updates specifically target blind spots during multi-lane turns. According to a product announcement on the Freightliner website, the next-generation Detroit Assurance suite with Active Brake Assist 6 will now include advanced cross-traffic radar monitoring.
Furthermore, this hardware uses a fused sensor network to scan the road. The system combines four short-range radars, one long-range unit, and a high-definition camera. This powerful setup provides comprehensive 270-degree monitoring around the truck chassis. Consequently, the technology will automatically trigger visual warnings for the driver. It will also engage emergency braking if another vehicle suddenly cuts across the truck’s forward path.
Protective Enhancements for Complex Left Turns
Left-hand turns are statistically prone to critical side-impact collisions due to fluctuating traffic patterns. Therefore, the updated safety system introduces Active Side Guard Assist 2. This version comes with dedicated left-turn protection. When a commercial driver activates their left turn signal, the technology actively scans the oncoming lanes for intersecting paths. If the sensors detect a fast-closing vehicle, the safety software can execute a full stop before the truck enters the dangerous impact zone.
