Verizon Reveal Adds Real-Time Speed Sign Alerts

Keeping drivers safe on the road is a top priority for any business that uses a fleet of vehicles. Speeding is one of the biggest risks out there, but it can be hard for managers to know exactly what is happening behind the wheel in real-time. To solve this, Verizon Connect has updated its Reveal platform with new safety tools. These tools use artificial intelligence and live video to give managers a better look at how their drivers are handling the road.

Seeing the Signs with AI Technology

The most exciting update is the addition of real-time speed sign alerts. In the past, many tracking systems relied solely on GPS data and digital maps to know the speed limit of a road. However, road conditions change frequently due to construction or new local laws. The new system uses AI-powered cameras to actually “read” speed limit signs as the vehicle passes them.

When a driver goes over the posted limit seen by the camera, the system flags the event immediately. This helps eliminate confusion about what the actual speed limit was at that exact moment. By using visual data from the real world, the software provides a much more accurate picture of driver behavior.

Live Streaming for Better Coaching

Another major part of this update is the ability to view road-facing live streams. If a safety alert is triggered, a fleet manager can pull up a live video feed from the vehicle’s dashcam. This is not about spying on workers; it is about understanding the context of an event. For example, a driver might have swerved or braked hard to avoid an animal or a reckless person in another car.

By seeing what the driver sees, managers can provide much better coaching. Instead of just scolding a driver for a “harsh event,” they can look at the footage together. This turns a simple data point into a teaching moment. It also helps protect drivers by proving they were driving safely if an accident happens that was not their fault.

Building a Culture of Safety

These new alerts are designed to do more than just catch mistakes. The goal is to build a culture where safety comes first. When drivers know that the system is accurate and fair, they are more likely to follow the rules of the road. Over time, these small changes in behavior lead to fewer accidents, lower insurance costs, and less wear and tear on the vehicles.

Using technology like AI-powered speed tracking makes the job of a fleet manager much easier. Instead of digging through hours of video or guessing if a speed limit map was correct, the information is delivered clearly and quickly. This allows businesses to focus on getting their jobs done while keeping their teams and the public safe.
